Donald Moore

Donald Frank Moore (Donnie), passed away peacefully at the New York State Veterans Home in Oxford, NY, on October 29, 2022. He was born in Endicott, NY in 1930 and was the proud son of the late Dr. Frank Moore and Marie H. Moore. He is also predeceased by his brother, Robert J. Moore (Sheila); his sister, Marjorie Doughan; his daughter, Denise M. Moore. Don was a man for all seasons, Football, Basketball, Baseball and Golf. Don was a loyal, generous witty friend who lived a full adventurous life traveling throughout the US to his favorite National Parks and sporting events and was known for his keen knowledge of sports trivia. The tricky blonde guard was captain of his basketball team at Canterbury Prep School in Connecticut in his junior and senior years. In the 1960’s Donnie brought numerous college All American Basketball players to our area for exhibition games. He was involved in bringing Wilt Chamberlain for a game in the old UE pit. His parties at his families cottage at Silver Lake were legendary. He moved to Ft. Lauderdale after attending the Culinary Institute in New Haven, CT. He lived in Florida for 13 years where he worked as a manager for a private club and floating hotel called Marina Bay. He went on to manage one of Ft. Lauderdale's first successful sports bar, The Press Box. He moved back to his hometown to co-own Kelly’s Sports Bar where he found his niche in creating many group gatherings, holiday parties, dinners, football and golf contests. His collection of hats, sports memorabilia and pictures were one of a kind. He had a passion for his beloved Notre Dame Football team throughout his life. He loved the Cooperstown Hall of Fame and was a member from the beginning. He hosted bus trips to Saratoga for over 20 years and also attended the Masters for 20 years as well. He leaves behind his life partner, Carol Dey of Endicott, NY; special nieces and nephews; and a daughter, Debra S. Moore of Columbus, Ohio. He was a champion friend from beginning to end. Sail on Commodore! We will keep your legacy alive by telling your priceless stories. Special thanks to all of the dedicated and caring staff of the VA in Oxford, NY.
Funeral services will be held Friday November 18th at 1:00 PM at Vestal Hills Memorial Park, Tower of Memories. Donations in his memory may be made to the Sunshine Club at the Veterans Home in Oxford, NY. 4207 State Route 220, Oxford, NY 13830.
