Margaret A. Funai

Margaret A. Funai, 77, of Endwell, NY, died May 13, 2022, following hospitalization for complications from leukemia. She is survived by her loving children, Ann and Jamie (Jerry Bell) of Austin, Texas and Russell of Endwell; brother George Kahoun Jr., sisters Mary K. Applefeld and Jane Murphy (James) of Cleveland, Ohio; nephew Patrick Dyer (Joanna), three great nieces, one great nephew and grand kitties A.J. and Zeke.

Margaret was born Jan. 11, 1945, in Cleveland, Ohio. She was predeceased by her parents, George Sr. and Bernadette Kahoun. Margaret graduated from Hoban Dominican High School in Cleveland and Kent State University, with a B.A. in English. As the second child and eldest daughter in a family of four children, she helped raise her younger sisters and served as their role model. Her nurturing skills served her well raising her three children, first in Medina County, Ohio and then in Endwell. She took great pride in their many accomplishments.

Before she retired, she worked as a teacher’s aide in the Johnson City School District and at CVS Pharmacy. She was a member of the Ladies Guild at the Church of the Holy Family. Margaret had a sharp wit and a wicked sense of humor, which was on display even as she battled her illness. She had a keen intellect and was an avid player of word games and a devoted viewer of Jeopardy!. She delighted in telling her family when she knew the Final Jeopardy! answer and the contestants didn’t. She was an enthusiastic Cleveland Indians (now Guardians) fan in a sea of Yankees fans and took particular joy in that rivalry with her son-in-law. Her family cherished her and misses her greatly.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at 5:00 PM at the Leon Pucedo Funeral Home, Inc. 1905 Watson Blvd. Endicott, NY, with the Rev. Clarence F.
