Anna Joanne Suflita Sisolak Powell

Anna Joanne Suflita Sisolak Powell, of Good Shepard Villages, Endwell, died May 27, 2023, at the age of 90, only two days past her birthday.

Anna was predeceased by her beloved sons Joseph Michael Sisolak and Thomas Paul Sisolak, sister Evelyn Suflita Zemberi, nephew Jared Suflita, nieces Joanne and Marie Zemberi, and husband Howard Powell.

She is survived by her daughter Teresa Sisolak Reller, brother Michael Suflita, beloved grandsons Paul Sisolak, Benjamin Reller, and Scott Reller, and great-grandson Joseph Reller. She is also survived by several nieces and many cousins.

Mom was an original member of Our Lady of Angels Church (now Church of the Holy Family), a place that she served in many capacities throughout the years and found great peace and love. She was an excellent seamstress which resulted in her own personal project of making quilted lap robes for those in hospice care. She made at least 50 of these, but who counts when it is a labor of love.

She loved to travel, including several cross-country trips in the trusty and incredibly organized pop-up camper. Joanne also enjoyed river boat cruises, trips to Europe, and exploring the minor highways in the northeast by car.

Mom and Howard were poetry in motion when dancing and they were involved in several local dance clubs. She was a beautiful woman who simply glowed when they took the floor.

She was devoted to her grandsons, making each one feel loved and special. Her great grandson was the apple of her eye and brought great joy in her last years. She may not have loved technology, but she was adept at sharing pictures on her IPad.

Mom was proud of her extended family and roots in the First Ward of Binghamton. She had many deep relationships with friends and was always ready to lend support to those who suffered the loss of a loved one. Motherhood was her most important role in life and she raised a family with deep and abiding love. And she was an amazing cook!

Funeral services will be held on Friday June 9th at 11:00 AM at the Church of the Holy Family 3600 Phyllis St. Endwell, NY. The burial will take place at a later date. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday from 10:00 AM until time of Mass at 11 AM. Expressions of sympathy in her memory may be made to a charity of one’s own choice.
