Rudy was a veteran of the US Army proudly serving his country during the Korean War and was in Japan from January of 1949 until his honorable discharge in June of 1952. During his service he received the Occupation Medal Japan, Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Star, ROK Presidential Unit Citation, a Combat Infantry Badge and a UN Service Medal. He started his career as a factory worker at Endicott Johnson and was later hired at IBM in 1966 where he worked his way up to a manager’s position until his retirement in 1990 after 24 years of service. He was a lifetime member of the Czechoslovakian Moravian Club, a Third-Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus Lodge, Council 1839 and a member of St. Joseph’s Church, Endicott. Rudy was the number one fan of all his grandchildren and great-grandsons. He loved to attend their many events. He was a Florida Snowbird for over 15 years where he met and maintained many lasting friendships. He enjoyed spending summers at his cottage on Song Lake in Preble with his many family members and friends. He enjoyed his annual New Years Eve hockey games for many years and watching sports with his sons and great-grandsons. After his retirement, he would pick up and deliver cars to local dealerships. He always enjoyed going out for breakfast with his friends and family. A very heartfelt and special thank you to Jess and Kris of Guthrie Hospice for their kind, compassionate and gentle care of both Rudy and our family during this difficult time and to the many volunteers of Meals on Wheels of Western Broome for delivering meals and conversation to Rudy.
