Gloria (Battaglini) Picciano

Gloria (Battaglini) Picciano, 94 of Endicott, passed away peacefully, Sunday December 13, 2020 at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital. She was predeceased by her husband, Emelio (Meo) Picciano; her sisters, Teresa (Patsy) Cannavino, Rose (Peter) Battaglini, Mary (Pie) Pezzuti, Bessie Battaglini, Anita (Ray) Caciola; her brothers, Anthony (Dorothy) Battaglini, Armond (Josephine) Battaglini. She is survived by three sons, Doug (Theresa) Picciano, David Picciano (Dara Raboy-Picciano), Derek Picciano; seven grandchildren, Adrianne (John Bachman) Picciano, Adam (Carla) Picciano, Lauren (Brandon) Gibbs, Andrew Picciano and his fiancé, Josepha Miller, Claire Picciano, Emma Picciano, Jola (Spencer) Scheepsma; three great-grandchildren, Gavin, Brody and Liora Scheepsma; two sisters, Josephine (Anthony, deceased) Picciano, Michelina (Rocco, deceased) Stancati; also several special nieces, nephews and cousins.

Gloria graduated Union-Endicott High School and was a 1949 graduate of SUNY Cortland where she earned a degree in Health/Physical Education. She was a Physical Education Teacher in the Union-Endicott School District, teaching at U-E High School, George F. Johnson Elementary and many other schools in the district. She was also instrumental in establishing and implementing the Physical Education Program at St. Anthony’s Parochial School in the mid 1960’s. She also later taught in the Vestal Central School District. Gloria was a kind and caring person concerned about the welfare of others as much as her own. She was a good wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who will be dearly missed.

The family extends special thanks to the staff of Ideal Senior Living Center for the caring and compassionate care given to Gloria over the past few years. A Funeral Mass will be offered Monday, December 21, 2020,, 11:00 AM at St. Anthony of Padua Church 300 Odell Ave. Endicott, NY. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City, NY. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to The UHS Foundation 10-42 Mitchell Ave. Binghamton, NY 13903.
