Lou Ligouri passed away on July 1, 2021 after a valiant struggle with that evil bastard, cancer. A loving pragmatist to the end, he passed away on the first of the month to be make sure his wife got that final social security and pension check, she is sure of it.
Lou reluctantly and very sadly leaves behind his wife of 22 years, Tracy “TJ” (Johnson) Ligouri, his beloved daughter and son, Heather (Dan) Esposito and Lou Jr. (Kelly) Ligouri, our wonderful grandchildren Sam, Eli and Lily, our precious sister in law, Diana (Mondo) Ligouri, brother Anthony (Mary) Ligouri and so many friends and other relatives. Also, his dog Oscar (“Osky!”) and their bazillion other pets that he grew to love after some initial resistance. Osky was at his side when Lou passed, a true companion to the end. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Rose (Quaranta) and Ray Ligouri, and his brother Armando Ligouri.
Thanks to his magnetic personality, we could never really be alone because Lou always bumped into at least one friend or admirer no matter how far away we traveled. A student at SUNY Binghamton and master’s graduate of RIT, Lou had a long career with Prudential Financial Services, then M&T Bank and finally, once he could collect a paycheck after volunteering for years, as Executive Director of the Endicott Performing Arts Center (EPAC). He was the 2010 recipient of the “Heart of the Arts” award from the Broome County Arts Council. His heart will always beat for EPAC, where he was not just the Executive Director, but also a performer, musician and singer, as well as EPAC’s Board President after his retirement. Lou was also honored with the 2011 Union-Endicott High School “Having Made a Difference” award.
A true patriot, he served his country during the Vietnam War as a member of the United States Army at Ft Jackson, South Carolina. To this day, he has maintained friendships with former army-related buddies who hung out with him at “the Flake”, an apartment they shared. He was also proud of having reached the status of Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America. He was a member of the Sons of Italy in Endicott.
There is no way to describe the joy and happiness his family was gifted as friends and supporters sang, told stories, played guitar and just loved on my HB during his illness. He heard and felt every word, every positive vibration. We all did. Thank you.
Lou’s “big finish” is Monday, July 12, 2021 at 11:00 am, at St. Anthony’s Church in Endicott, NY. Lou was a life-long member of St. Anthony’s, served as an altar boy and was, of course, a member of the St. Anthony Players.
A celebration of his life will follow from 12-2 pm at the Endicott Performing Arts Center, 102 Washington Ave., Endicott, NY.
Lou requested that in lieu of flowers, please make donations to EPAC - www.endicottarts.com (mailing address above) or to Kali’s Klubhouse - www.kalisklubhouse.org - PO Box 60, Apalachin, NY, an Equine Assisted Learning program where his wife volunteers and indulges her passion for horses.
