Helen F. Marhefka, 96, of Endwell, NY passed peacefully Sunday, May 29, 2022. The daughter of immigrant parents, Helen was especially proud of her Czech heritage. She was born and raised in the First Ward, graduating top of her class at just 16 years old from Binghamton High-School. She then worked in the finance department for GE where she was one of the first women promoted to a high-ranking position. She later held several jobs for NYS and was a dedicated member of St. Joseph’s Church. Throughout her life she enjoyed hosting family holiday’s, baking for her loved ones, and was especially revered for her kolachki.
Helen is survived by her son Rick (Pat) Marhefka, daughter Terrie (Peter) Powell, grandchildren Ryan (Felicia) Powell, Rebecca (Ryan) McGinnis, Joe (Christina) Powell, Alicia (Sanjeev) Marhefka and great-grandchildren Nico, Josefina, and Matthew; as well as her dearly beloved brother, Joe Yungman. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Frances Jungmann, her devoted husband of 56 years Joseph Marhefka, grandson Adam Marhefka, sisters Josephine Marhefka and Stephie (Tom) Ondrako, and sister-in-law Florence Yungman.
Helen will be remembered for her selfless and generous character –having always made sure that her family was well cared for. As well as her love of sports, walks, spending time with her loved ones, and being an integral part of every family milestone. She was witty, intelligent, hard-working, and ahead of her time in a multitude of ways. She had a beautiful, long life, filled with unconditional love. We know that she is finally dancing a long-awaited Polka with her husband Joe.
