He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 66 years, Sally Perry (nee Sarah Jean Glasl), six children: Mark (Francesca) Perry Sr., Gene (Mary) Perry Jr., John (Lynn) Perry, Christopher (Mary) Perry, Angela (Darrell) Perry Davis, and James (Lina) Perry; 12 grandchildren: Rachel (Brendan) Heslin, Mark Perry Jr., Allison (Kevin) Hores, Christopher (Courtney) Perry, Elizabeth (Vinny) Pardi, Christina (Alex) Perry, Michael Perry, Victoria Gonzalez, Austin Perry Davis, Tanner Perry Davis, Nikhita Perry, and Vijay Perry; and 12 great-grandchildren: Brady and Delaney Heslin; Liam and Mattigan Perry; Audrina and Grayson Hores; Ryan Perry; and Mia, Marco, Dominique, Geno and Paolo Pardi.
Gene worked at IBM-Owego for 35 years, from 1956-1991. He played the accordion professionally from the time he was a teenager until well into his 70’s, and was a well-known musician, who loved entertaining. He was always ready and willing to get the accordion out and strike up a tune, whether it was “Happy Birthday,” Christmas Carols, or the Tarantella. He made sure that all his children played an instrument and for many years the Perrys had a family band. In addition, Gene and his wife Sally operated the Hallelujah Tape Ministry, recording, copying, and distributing religious-themed cassette tapes, which touched the lives of many people.
Gene was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather and perhaps the only thing that he was more devoted to than his loving family was the Lord. He and his wife Sally were members of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Endicott, NY and attended Mass almost daily for many years, until ill health prevented him from doing so. When Gene and Sally were no longer able to attend daily Mass in person, they enjoyed watching the Mass on television and saying the rosary along with EWTN. Their daily life was filled with prayer and thanksgiving for the many blessings they received, and included a long prayer list of anyone they knew who needed God’s help. When asked about how he was doing, Gene was fond of replying that God has been so good to him.
The family would like to thank his physicians Dr. Bruce Bowling and Dr. John Miller for their compassionate and attentive care.
