Margaret Dutkowsky

Margaret C. Dutkowsky

After 96 blessed years, Marge died peacefully at home, early in the morning on April 29, with her little dog Lucie by her side.

Marge was born on March 14,1927, in Binghamton to Frank and Bertha Kutz. She was raised with her siblings; Franny, Betty, and Walter in the First Ward of Binghamton. She graduated from Binghamton Central High School. While working at Montgomery Ward, she caught the eye of a handsome soldier, Ed Dutkowsky, and the next chapter of her story began. Marge and Ed married on Memorial Day 1947.

In 1952, they bought a plot of land in the Town of Union on Yale Street and with the help of his brother, Ed built the house that they would both live in for the rest of their lives. Over time, the neighborhood grew, and Marge made deep, lifelong friendships with her neighbors.

Over the next 15 years, Marge and Ed had four children who became the center of their focus and their lives. They were deeply passionate about their Polish heritage, and this was often expressed in the foods that Marge lovingly made for her family, especially her famous halupki. Every Easter and Christmas morning, the house would be filled with the smell of Marge’s fresh Polish kielbasa. In the late summer, the counters were lined with jars of her wonderful dill pickles. In the fall, there would be pots of cabbage and lamb soup simmering on the stove. In the winter, Marge would warm the house baking kolaczki, apricot rolls and sweet bread.

Marge’s spirit carries on through her children; David and Ellen Dutkowsky, Plano, TX; Rob and Lorraine Dutkowsky, Tampa FL; Ed and Lynne Dutkowsky, Vestal, NY; Sandra Dutkowsky; Marge’s “adopted” daughter, Jennifer Marshall, Ithaca, NY. Her grandchildren, Katie Regner, Peter Dutkowsky and Brittany Halvorson, Kevin and Julie Dutkowsky, Jennifer Dutkowsky, Chris and Chelsea Dutkowsky, Sam and Michelle Dutkowsky and Robyn and Mike Kaminski. Marge is also survived by nine great grandchildren (and one is on the way!)

Although Marge’s final years were challenging, she persevered with dignity, grace, a sense of humor and sass that drew many close to her. Thank you to the wonderful caretakers who tended to her in such a loving and compassionate way.

Marge was a passionate animal lover. Please consider donating in her name to the animal shelter of your choice.

We were so lucky to have you, Mom!

Joseph G. Pisani

Joseph G. Pisani, 70, of Endicott, passed away unexpectedly on Monday morning, April 10, 2023.

He was predeceased by his wife and love of his life, Yvonne Pisani; daughter Stephanie Spathelf;
parents, J. Larry and Lena Pisani; uncle Ralph A. Pisani; aunts Pearl Sportelli and Christine Treat; and
cousin Ralph S. Pisani.

He is survived by two sons, Peter and Matthew Pisani, brother and sister-in-law Mark and Beth Pisani;
two grandsons, Jacob and Andrew Spathelf; granddaughter, Michele Spathelf; nieces Kristin Geiger
and Elisa Pisani; uncle, Albert Emola; and cousins, Maria Fusco, Phil Pisani, Sal Pisani, Anthony
Sportelli, and John Sportelli, as well as lifelong friend, next door neighbor, and world problem-solving
partner, Jimmy Kushner.

Many of his immediate family members at one point or another have been asked if they were related to
“Joe Pisani, the electrician”. Joe was a licensed master electrician, and was the proud proprietor of
Fairplay Electric, where he served numerous customers, friends, and family with honesty, fairness, and
craftsmanship for many years. Joe was also an employee of Endicott-Johnson Shoe Company's
Glendale plant, and retired as a maintenance mechanic from SUNY Broome Community College in
2013.

Joe was also a skilled ham radio operator (N2YR), and was a proud Extra Class licensee from the
American Radio Relay League. He was a talented antenna designer, having planned and built the ham
radio antennas that lovingly adorned his roof for many years. His favorite question to ask the ham
radio friends he made around the world was “tell me what you see outside your window right now” -
always remembering to try and see the world through the eyes of others. Joe was also a loving and
meticulous gardener, and was exceptionally fond of the flower-pot tomatoes he grew on his deck, as
well his sunflower garden that adorned the corner of Odell Avenue and Summit Street each spring.
Joe's greatest remembrance will be as a lifelong student and teacher of the world around him. Joe
consumed every piece of knowledge he possibly could on any topic imaginable, from electricity,
natural science, and quantum physics, to the complete history of the P-51 mustang and every existing
written or oral story ever produced by Jean Shepherd. Not only this, Joe also was generous with his
ability and willingness to pass on any possible piece of knowledge to others, whether they were a
member of the world of academia or a bar stool student from the school of life.
In all, Joe was all these things put together, and so very much more. He will be greatly missed by the
friends and family that he made throughout his life.
“And with that, we'll say 73's. N2YR, signing off.”
