Maureen (Condon) Adams

Maureen (Condon) Adams of Endicott, NY, passed away peacefully Sunday October 31, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. She was predeceased by her infant daughter, Lynn Beth; her grandparents, Glenn and Naomi Tingley; her parents, William and Maxine Condon; her sisters, Ellen Aldrich and Kathleen Blackman Major. She is survived by her daughters, Lori Maron (Ronald), Liza Adams; her grandchildren, Samantha Dalla-Verde (Scott Varcadipane), Liza Egloff (Peter), Mitchell Adams-Fisher; her great-grandson, Jacob Dalla-Verde; her sister, Roberta Gulick (Buzz); also several nieces, nephews, and a countless amount of friends.

Maureen was a prominent business woman involved in many organizations and charities. She was a member of the Broome County Board of Realtors. Real Estate was her passion, she loved helping people in any way that she could, whether it was finding them a house or a job or anything they needed. She loved networking and hosting events. When you think of Maureen you think of Christmas, it was a yearlong obsession. She was well known for her spectacular theme parties. Her unconditional love and dedication to her family knew no bounds.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, November 5th at 4:00 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, 207 Hayes Ave. Endicott, NY. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Vivian Valentine (Turrigiano) Virgilio

Vivian Valentine (Turrigiano) Virgilio, 85 of Endwell, NY, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday October 28, 2021. She is survived by her beloved children, Janet Roach, Annette Simek (Robert), William Virgilio, Jr.; her precious grandchildren, Benjamin Roach (Connie), Michael Roach, Daniel and Joseph Simek, William Virgilio, III., Robert, Marissa and Victoria Shank; her great-grandchildren, Rocco, Victoria and Nicholas Roach; her sister, Julia Annotto (Nick); her sisters-in-law, Patricia Virgilio, Pam Turrigiano (Mark Tyson); two special cousins, Patricia Calistri and Rose DiRienzo; also several treasured nieces, nephews, cousins, Godchildren, friends and “showbiz friends” for whom she had a special place in her heart. Vivian was predeceased in 2002 by her husband of 46 years, William J. Virgilio, Sr.; her parents, Benny and Mary Turrigiano; her brothers, Vincent Turrigiano and Peter Saraceno; her brothers-in-law, Donald Virgilio, Thomas Virgilio; her sister-in-law, MaryAnn Virgilio; her aunt, Rose Serafini. She was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church, Endicott and its choir; a member of St. Anthony’s Angels; a member of St. Anthony’s Players; a member of EPAC and one of the directors of their Lyric Performers; an honored member of the Daughters of Columbus Lodge, #1666; Vivian was a social butterfly who loved to gather with family and friends.  She was an avid and knowledgeable football fan. “Always remember how much I loved you”. 

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday November 3rd at 1:00 PM at St. Anthony of Padua Church 300 Odell Ave. Endicott, NY. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Esther (Nasoni) Jones Michael

Esther (Nasoni) Jones Michael, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family as she entered her 100th year on October 26, 2021. She was predeceased by her husbands, Charles L. Jones and John Michael; her parents, Romolo and Marie Nasoni; her brother, Baldo Nasoni; her sisters, Mary Cannavino and Christina George; her great-grandsons, Charles Jones and Braydon Lague. She is survived by her children, David Jones, Patricia Sutton, Catherine Massie, Charlene Jones and Elizabeth French(Don); her grandchildren, Nicole Williams, David Jones, Dion Williams, Jillean Lague, Dino Chaves, Angela Chaves and Derek Jones; also eleven great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Mary Jones.

Esther lived a long and loving life with her family and friends and enjoyed many happy years with her grandchildren. She was a former member of the Daughters of Columbus Lodge #1666 and the Stella D’Argento Lodge #1916. Our mom lived her life with a strong will and spirit and an  enduring determination to “do it her way”. We would like to thank the entire staff at Binghamton General Hospital for their care, compassion and professionalism during our mother’s final days.

A Funeral Mass will be held Monday November 1, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Ambrose Church 203 Washington Ave. Endicott, NY. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City, NY. Joann (Baleno) Komar

Joann (Baleno) Komar, 73 of Endicott, passed away peacefully October 28, 2021 after a short illness. She was predeceased by her husband, Harry F. Komar; her parents, Angelo and Ruth Baleno; her brother, Michael Baleno. She is survived by her children; Anthony (Tricia) Allio, William (Stacey) Komar; her grandchildren, Aidan and Ethan Allio, Justin, Jon, Kyle and Liam Komar, Calleigh Ludwig; her siblings, Albert (Margaret) Baleno, MaryAnne (James) Iacovelli, Thomas (Patty) Baleno, Emily Baleno; her sister-in-law, Carol Baleno; her canine companion, “Bo”; also several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was a member of St. Mary’s Orthodox Church, Endicott and a retired employee of Walmart, Vestal. At Joann’s request there will be no formal funeral services. A celebration of life will be announced in the near future.

Theresa G. Howell (Mingarelli)

Theresa G. Howell (Mingarelli), 88 of Little Meadows, PA, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2021. She was predeceased by her husband of 34 years, Edric R. Howell; her parents, Constantine and Domenica Mingarelli; her sister, Leanora (Ted) Scarinzi; her brothers, Robert J. Mingarelli and Joseph Mingarelli; her brother-in-law, Don Weiskopff. She is survived by her sister, Mary Weiskopff of Endicott; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Mingarelli of Endicott and Justine Mingarelli of Florida; also many nieces and nephews.

Theresa loved to travel as well as create stained glass designs with Edric over the years. She also always loved her four-legged friends. She was a member of St. Margaret Mary’s Church, Apalachin. After Ed’s passing, she enjoyed volunteering much of her time with her friends at St. Margaret Mary’s Parish. She will be greatly missed. Theresa will be laid to rest with her husband at Riverside Cemetery in Apalachin. Donations in her memory may be made to Boys Town, PO Box 8000, Boys Town, NE 68010.

Robert Paul Butchko

It is with great sorrow and sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Paul Butchko. He was a husband, father, grandfather and friend to many people. He was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Anna (Havrilka) Butchko; his sister and brother-in-law, Betty and William DeTemple, and a brother George who passed away before Bob was born; his father and mother-in-law, Fred and Ann (Buran) Zappia; his brother-in-law, Stephen Zappia and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Bob was a 1960 graduate of St. Lawrence University where he played basketball and baseball all four years of college. After graduating from St. Lawrence he attended the University of Maryland working on his masters degree.

Bob retired from IBM Corp. after 36 years of service, retiring as a Senior Advisory Human Resources Business Partner. During his career with IBM, he was awarded the IBM Presidents Award. You may remember seeing Bob at Zappia’s Sporting Goods store, where he worked part time for 20 years.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Patty (Zappia); his son, Michael (Agatha); his daughter, Christine who was a tremendous help to him during his illness; his daughter, Tracie (Michael) DiMarco who was Bob’s go to nurse for all medical questions and help; his grandchildren, Bobby and Daniel Butchko, Gianna and Mikey DiMarco. Bob had cousins and good friends, Peter Sylvester, Ed Golebiewski and Fred Zappia to name a few. Fred Zappia wrote the following tribute to Bob, and it totally sums his 83 years of life. “He was a man of virtue and principle, honest, genuine and sincere. Well informed, not lacking in humor, wise in his counsel, mentally and physically tough, frustratingly stubborn, loved his family and friends with unwavering loyalty. He takes with him a part of my heart and my soul. His absence from my life will be felt every day until like him, I lay my head down to rest.”

Bob is also survived by his brother-in-law, Fred Zappia (Susan) and their children, Marcus Zappia and Julie McLean; sister-in-law, Annamary Zappia and brother-in-law, Gary Allen and their children, Breann Parseghian (David) and family, Meghan Fabrizi (Mike) and family and Jennifer Allen, and his aunt, Mary Lou Zappia. Bob was 83 years young. He loved his family, golf, vacations and life. Funeral services will be held Monday October 25th at the Leon Pucedo Funeral Home, Inc. 1905 Watson Blvd. Endicott at 11:30 AM with the Rev. Fr. Charles Opondo-Owora, officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. The family will receive friends at the Pucedo Funeral Home on Monday from 10 AM until time of service at 11:30 AM.

William Edward Shamulka (Bill)

William Edward Shamulka (Bill) ended his 16-year battle with cancer as he peacefully passed in his sleep surrounded by loved ones at the Mercy House on October 20, 2021. He was 89. A prominent Endicott attorney, Bill was also a titan in the NYS Republican party. He served as special counsel to state senate majority leader Warren Anderson for most of the 30 years he spent working behind the scenes in the legislature. 

He was a unique blend, being both fiscally conservative and socially liberal. While responsible for developing countless pieces of legislation, one bill he was particularly proud of was the establishment of the public defense system in NYS. He was an ardent believer that politicians should govern in their constituents' best interests instead of their own. He often recounted saving NYC from bankruptcy in the '70s as an example of the upstate GOP forging a difficult compromise for the greater good of the entire state. Among many achievements, he was responsible for organizing President Ronald Reagan's visit to Endicott in 1984. 

Bill was a combat veteran who served in the U.S. Army in Korea before finishing his degree at Harpur College. He put himself through college, eventually earning his law degree at Albany Law School by working numerous jobs and with help from the G.I. Bill. He later went on to serve on the board of Binghamton University.

He married the love of his life, Rose (Kulik) Shamulka, in 1959. They were together until she passed 61 years later. He was an active and devout parishioner, first at St. Mary's in Endicott and then at St. Michael's in Binghamton. He provided legal counsel to both churches over the years and led a committee that updated the by-laws of the latter in the '80s. He took to golf later in life and was an ardent Giants and Yankees fan.

 Bill was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Helen Shamulka, his brothers, Mike, Frank, George, and John (Jake), and his sisters, Mary Gonos, Helen Hanus, and Anna Koval. He is survived by his son Bruce, his daughter-in-law Lynn, and his beloved grandchildren Nicholas and Anna Rose (Stella).

The family will receive friends at St. Michael's Orthodox Church 292 Clinton St. Binghamton on Wednesday October 27th from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM. The Devine Liturgy with the Funeral Service will be celebrated at 10:30 AM by the V. Rev. James Dutko. Burial will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery. Marie A. Smith

Marie A. Smith, 78 of Johnson City, NY, passed away peacefully Thursday October 21, 2021. She was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Jennie Struppler; her brothers, Ronald and Charles Struppler. She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Richard Smith; her son, Michael (Christine) Smith; her brother, Donald (Joni) Struppler; also several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, Endicott. Marie was an extraordinary homemaker who loved to cook and bake and especially enjoyed the holidays with her family and friends.

Catherine (Kitty) Allio

Catherine (Kitty) Allio, 86 and a lifelong resident of Endicott NY, passed away unexpectedly in her home on October 20, 2021.

Kitty was preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years, Frank M. Allio; by her parents James and Mary Murtari; father and mother in-law Ernesto and Emilia Allio; brother-in-laws Remo and Benito Allio, and sister-in-law Josephine Allio.

Kitty is survived by her children Maria, Andrea, Ben (Michelle), and Vincent (Melanie), as well as 9 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and many special family and friends.

Kitty was a graduate of Union Endicott High school. She worked for GE and IBM and was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church. Kitty loved spending time with her immediate and extended family, especially the annual 4th of July Contento family picnic, monthly card club, and her biweekly woman's "sewing" club affectionately known as the "stitch n' bitch". Kitty enthusiastically supported the myriad of activities her children and grandchildren participated in whenever she could. You frequently found Kitty relaxing on the front porch reading a book or watching her neighbors. She had a great love for her four footed companions, especially her black cats.

The family is especially grateful for Kitty's devoted caregivers, Theresa and Keri. The care you provided gave us peace of mind.

Louise Ann Battaglini

On October 21, 2021, Louise Ann Battaglini went to be with the Lord, her husband Mario and her son David, passing away peacefully in her sleep. She was 88 years old. A lifelong Endicott native, Louise was well loved in her town by family and friends. Louise was the mother of three children, grandmother to nine grandchildren, great grandmother to four great grandchildren, as well as a niece, aunt, cousin and friend to many. Despite her large network of family and friends, she always made time for everyone and provided support and love for all.

She was born on August 15, 1933, in Johnson city, a daughter of the late Phillip and Nicoletta Cicciarelli. Louise was also predeceased by her husband of 64 wonderful years Mario, son David, her brother Johnny and her sister Mary.She is survived by her daughter Patricia (Ralph) Garrison, her son Joseph (Denise) Battaglini, sisters Rita Tricarico, Yolanda Masi, and Rosalie Gennarelli. She is also survived by her aunt Amelia Palmisano and cousin Becky Borelli, with whom she shared a special bond from the time she was a little girl.

After dedicating 20 plus years, Louise retired from Endicott Trust Company, but continued to practice her money management skills and passed along her knowledge to her family. 

She was a member of St. Anthony's Church. Her favorite pastimes included trips to the casino, cooking for her family, especially her grandchildren, and ensuring she scheduled around her 12:00 a.m. “soap opera” stories. Louise was also loved by her nine grandchildren, Stephanie (Adam) Goett, Michael (Kai) Garrison, Elizabeth Garrison, Andrew Battaglini (Lacey), Jeffrey (Christine) Battaglini, James Battaglini (Joanna), Jenna Battaglini, Emerson Murphy, and Emily Battaglini. Louise is also survived by her four great-grandchildren, Lucy Louise and Patrick James Goett, Camilla James Battaglini, and Henry David Garrison.

She will always be remembered as a strong-willed, Italian Matriarch who endlessly cherished her family.

Jim Amory

Jim Amory, 87 of Endicott, NY (Formerly of LeRaysville, PA) passed away peacefully Monday October 18, 2021 surrounded by his loving family. He was predeceased by his daughter, Clare Amory; his brothers, Frederick, Hugh and William Amory; his sister, Amey Amory-DeFriez. He is survived by four daughters, Elizabeth Cunningham, Catherine Amory, Ruth Amory-Hedges (Eric), Robin Spencer; four grandchildren, Autumn and Cyrus Hedges, Tony and Kara Spencer; his former wife, Carolyn Timmsen-Amory.

He was a graduate of Groton School in Groton MA, class of 1952 and attended Harvard University before joining the Army and serving from 1953-1955. After serving in the Army he was a Union Organizer for the International Ladies Garment Workers Union. He was a Civil Rights Activist in Haywood County ,TN, during the Civil Rights Movement. He was also active in the Native American Rights Movement in California where he met our mother Carolyn and together stayed in the Hopi Reservation in Arizona. They later moved to LeRaysville, PA and built a home on a farm and after several years purchased the Amish Milk Cooperative Cheese Factory transforming it into an award winning venture and retired at the age of 76.

The family will receive friends at the Leon Pucedo Funeral Home, Inc., 1905 Watson Blvd. Endicott, NY, on Sunday October 24, 2021, from 2 :00 PM until 3:00 PM when a Memorial Service will begin. E. Gene Stagnitto

E. Gene Stagnitto, 96, of Good Shepherd Village @ Endwell, passed away Monday morning, October 18, 2021. She was predeceased by her grandson, Devin Howie, and her loving husband of 69 years, Joseph Paul Stagnitto. She is survived by her daughters, June Muldner (Carl), Janet Howie (Greg Benson); her grandsons, Josh (Maria), Todd, and Alan Muldner, Colin Howie; her great-grandchildren, Marina, Juliana and Mitchell Muldner; her sisters, Charlotte Gasser and Florence Borman, along with nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Gene was born in Dale, Indiana on June 25, 1925, to Paul and Blanche Jochim. She was one of seven children, and a twin to Elmer, with whom she shared a special bond. She was a retired high school secretary from Croton-on-Hudson, NY. Gene was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, October 29, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of the Holy Family, 3600 Phyllis St. Endwell, NY. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City, NY. Marlene (Crescente) Kadleck

Marlene (Crescente) Kadleck, 79 of Endicott, NY, passed away at her home after a long battle with Cancer. She was predeceased by her parents, Michael and Evelyn Crescente. She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Lewis E. Kadleck; her son, Anthony Michael Kadleck; her grandson, Jack Henry Kadleck; her sister, Patricia Crescente; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ed Kadleck, Barbara Allen, Shirley and Bill Friday; her dear friends, Donna and Joe Guarnieri, Nick and Patty Rano, Ed and Diane Guley; her canine companions, Rosie and Bear; also several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was a retired employee of IBM Endicott and a former member of the Daughters of Columbus Lodge. She was a past volunteered at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Binghamton, Meals on Wheels, and Binghamton General Hospital. 

A Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday October 12, 2021 at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 300 Odell Ave., Endicott, NY at 11:00 AM. A luncheon will follow at the Sons of Italy in Endicott. Rosalyn (Roz) Roma 79 of Endicott passed away peacefully Monday, September 13, 2021. She was predeceased by her parents Arthur and Grace Sementelli; her in-laws Mario and Madeline Roma; her brother-in-law John Roma. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 61 years Ron Roma; her daughters Debra (Beth Herrick), Lisa (Bob) Koban; her sister-in-law Diane Roma; nieces Michelle (Fred), Denise; her nephew Mark (Stephanie); special great-nephew Michael (Kelly) Barton; special friends Mary Lou Paoletti, Rich and Paulette Donkersloot, Jimmy and Patti Koval; also many cousins and dear friends.

Roz loved to travel and spend time in Hilton Head, SC. She was an avid crocheter and blessed many with her prayer shawls, afghans, and kitty cat beds. She was a true lover of animals.
